Exercise
A personalized exercise program during your cancer rehabilitation can enhance your overall health, improve strength and maintain a positive outlook. A comprehensive evaluation will be performed to determine any range of motion and/or strength deficits. Based on those results, a personalized exercise program will be designed for you by our expert therapists and specialists. Patients will be under close supervision as exercises are performed.
- Flexibility Exercises: The key goals with flexibility exercises are to preserve the range of motion, prevent the effects of immobilization, such as joint contractures, muscle atrophy, weakness, and pressure sores, and direct lymphatic flow towards adjacent functioning lymph nodes.
- Resistive Exercises: Participating in a resistance exercise regimen can assist the body in the draining of lymph fluid and enhance lymphatic flow, prevent limb swelling associated with lymphedema, and decrease levels of fatigue.
- Aerobic Conditioning: The beneficial effects of aerobic conditioning include improvement in cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and overall health, better balance and coordination, effective weight management, and enhancement of venous and lymphatic circulation.
